On Thursday, September 29, the Edgemont School Board held a special meeting at 7 p.m.
After general meeting openers and an executive session, the board approved Shelly Hall to be added to the substitute teacher list. This would be pending a background check.
The reason for the meeting was to give final budge approval, along with the tax levy and Resolution 2016-17.
Some discussion was held on the adjustments to the budget. Some of the board wondered about school vehicles. Diane Stevens stated that many of their vehicles had not only age, but lots of mileage on them. They had talked about running some of them a little longer. Dave Cortney stated that a new yellow bus would cost around $84,000.
Board member Justin Printz asked if they could tell a difference in cost with the new heating/cooling system in the building. Cortney thought that they could see a savings in costs so far, but haven’t had a tough winter yet. Board president Gary Darrow thought this new option was much cleaner than the old fuel oil option.
The tax levy notice will need to be sent to the County Auditor after Cortney has signed and the board had approved. It breaks down the taxes to fund the school’s 2016-2017 budget.
The Resolution 2016-17 basically was to adopt the annual budget. Stevens had never done one before, but she believed it wouldn’t hurt to do. It must be signed by Darrow and Stevens. The board approved this.
The board also approved the delegation agreement of indirect cost rates.
