HOT SPRINGS – For the 72nd year, the Miss South Dakota Scholarship Pageant will take place in Hot Springs this week as the 2018 contestants hit the stage of the Mueller Civic Center Theater for the next three nights.
This will however be the final pageant to be held in Hot Springs, which has been the home of the statewide competition since it all began with the very first Miss South Dakota Roselyn Anderson, crowned in the summer of 1947. A new host city for the 2019 event will be announced at the final night of competition on Saturday, June 16.
The schedule of events this week include preliminary competitions on Thursday and Friday night beginning at 6 p.m. both nights. The Outstanding Teen Competition will also take place Friday night with the crowning of the 2018 winner.
A downtown parade will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning with the final night of competition beginning at 6 p.m later that night, culminating with the crowning of the 2018 Miss South Dakota winner and a special “After Celebration” to follow.
Be sure to pick up a copy of the Fall River County Herald’s Miss South Dakota Special Edition, inserted in last week’s June 7 edition, and also available for free on racks at the Mueller Center and in various locations around town.
