Gweneth Margarete ‘Gwen’ Klein, 103

Gweneth Margarete ‘Gwen’ Klein, 103, of Hot Springs, died peacefully, May 21, 2018, at Seven Sisters Assisted Living Center in Hot Springs.

Gweneth was born December 21, 1914, to Earl and Emilie Teare of Rosholt. She was raised with two other sisters and a brother,and attended Rosholt public school for her education. On August 29, 1936, she married a local farm boy by the name of Edward Klein. Together they started raising their family. At the start of WW 2 they moved to Igloo, where her husband worked as a civilian at the army ammunition depot. In October of 1945, the family moved to Hot Springs, buying and operating a standard gas station; where Gweneth worked along with her husband. It was a busy time, being post war and the building of Angustora dam, they were open 24 hours a day during some summers. In the early 1950’s they started building a motel (El Rancho Motel) where Gweneth was busier than ever supervising house cleaning, office work, and other work related duties. They retired in the early 1970’s, where she could take better care of her flower gardens which she loved. Other hobbies included coin and stamp collecting, and rock hunting for agates on the prairies of Montana, the Dakotas, and Nebraska. She liked doing her own thing, which included sawing her own firewood, where as her son had to take away her chainsaw at the age of 100. She loved to travel, not only in the States, but Europe and beyond.

Gweneth is survived by two sons, Roger and Robert (Judy) of Hot Springs; two grandchildren, Kelsey (Chala) of Bellevue, Wash.; Laura (Brad) Marshall of Danville, Cali.; three great grandchildren, Madison and Paxton of Bellevue; Bradley of Danville; one great great grandchild, Holland of Danville. Also to be included are many wonderful nieces and nephews who gave great meaning to her life.

Gweneth was preceded in death by her husband Edward Klein; a son James Klein of Danville, Cali; her parents Earl and Emile Teare of Rosholt; a brother Earl William of Rosholt; two sisters, Vivian of Rosholt; Iona of Fairmount ND; and tragically her great grandchild, Brook of Danville, Cali.

Committal services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018, at Evergreen Cemetery.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home, Hot Springs.
