FALL RIVER – As the three area schools get ready to conduct graduation ceremonies over the next few days, this past winter’s basketball season may seem like a distant memory. But along with graduation this time of year, it’s also a time to recognize students for their achievements over the past year, which is why the Fall River County Herald is taking this opportunity to announce its 2nd annual All-County Basketball honors.

This past basketball season was a special one for many area teams, especially for the three boys programs as Hot Springs qualified for the State Class “A” Tournament for the first time since 1945, and went on to finish 8th overall in the state with a school-best overall season record of 20-6.

The post-season wasn’t as kind to the Oelrichs and Edgemont boys’ teams, however, the Tigers did win their first round game as the No. 6 seed in Region 7B to finish with a winning record overall as they went 12-10 on the season. The Edgemont boys meanwhile also earned double-digit victories for the first time in 25 years, as they went 10-11 on the year.

For the county’s girls’ teams, the Edgemont Lady Moguls had the most success as they finished 10-11 overall and were undefeated against both Hot Springs (2-0) and Oelrichs (1-0). The Lady Tigers were 4-17 on the season while the Lady Bison finished 3-18.

This year’s Boys and Girls All-Fall River County Basketball Teams were selected primarily based on individual season statistics, with additional weight placed on the players leading their team in the statistical categories of scoring, rebounds, steals and assists, along with the teams’ overall success. With all three of the county’s boys’ team having considerable success this past year, a total of 11 players were named to the First-Team, with seven Honorable Mention. The girls’ All-County First-Team features 10 players, with seven Honorable Mention as well.
