The Edgemont Mogul Volleyball Team opened their 2016 season with the Custer Invitational Tournament on August 26 and 27. The tournament had two pools of teams playing with the top two teams from each pool playing out the tournament on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Moguls faced some tough opponents in their pool. Their opening match was against the Custer Wildcats. The Moguls worked through the first game jitters and became more comfortable on the court during this match. The Moguls were defeated in two sets, 12-25 and 18-25.
The next match brought the Moguls against the Pine Ridge Thorpes. The Thorpes went on a couple scoring runs to defeat the Moguls in two sets, 17-25 and 14-25. The Lady Moguls ended the first day with a record of 0-2.
Saturday took the Lady Moguls back to Custer to finish out the tournament pool play. The Moguls came up against the Red Cloud Crusaders to start their day. The Lady Moguls were ready to go and applied what they learned from the previous day. The Moguls defeated the Crusaders in two sets, 25-14 and 25-17.
The Lady Moguls took their confidence from their win against the Crusaders into their next match. They took on the Lead/Deadwood Golddiggers. The match went to three sets with scoring to 25. The Lady Moguls fought hard and came out on top, 25-20, 17-25, and 25-17. The Moguls completed their opening weekend tournament with a record of 2-2.
The Lady Moguls played at home on Tuesday, August 30, against Hill City. They will travel to Newell to take on the Irrigators on Thursday, September 1, at 5 p.m. Then they will be gearing up for their Homecoming games on Thursday, September 8. The Junior Varsity will play Oelrichs JV at 4 p.m. The Varsity will play Hay Springs at 6 p.m. See you at the Mogul Dome!
