HAY SPRINGS – The Edgemont Lady Moguls volleyball team played five matches last week, all on the road, and finished with a record of 2-3 over the five day period, which included wins over Hay Springs and Newell, but losses to Moorcroft, Wall and Gordon-Rushville.
Last Tuesday, Sept. 25, the Edgemont defeated Hay Springs 3-1 by scores of 25-13, 20-25, 25-22 and 25-15.
“Maddie Peterson, Sarah Barker, and Peyton Ostenson had good games that night,” said Edgemont head coach Susan Ostenson.
Peterson led the team with 12 kills and also had 11 digs, 15 serve receptions and one ace serve. Barker had eight kills, 11 digs, one block, and two ace serves, while Peyton Ostenson had six digs, five kill assits, one block, and one ace serve.
In addition, Abby Tidball had 11 digs, 15 serve receptions, nine kills and thee ace serves, while Jenna Ostenson had a team-high 18 kill assists.
Last Thursday, the Lady Moguls fell to Moorcroft 1-3 by scores of 27-25, 19-25, 18-25 and 13-25. “Kiara Allen and Elli Hollenbeck played well,” Coach Ostenson said. Full statistics from the match were not available.
This past Saturday, the Edgemont volleyball team played in the Mile High Tournament in Lead, where they lost both of their pool games in the morning, versus Wall (19-25, 21-25) and then Gordan-Rushville (16-25, 22-25).
“We were in both matches, but just couldn't finish,” Coach Ostenson said.
They however did defeat Newell (25-9, 25-23) in their last match of the day. Statistics were not available for any of the Lead Tourney games.
“The girls improved with each match we played as they day went on,” the coach said. “Taylor Grill came off the bench in the first match and stayed on the floor for the rest of the day. She played well in both the front and back rows where we needed her Saturday.”
