The meeting started out with the call to order, roll call (absent - Diane Stevens and Lane Ostenson), pledge of Allegiance, approval of agenda and approval of November 10, minutes. The board made a motion to enter into executive session at 7:05 p.m. Lane Ostenson arrived during the executive session. Financial statements were reviewed, and payment of bills was approved by unanimous vote.
Several resignations were mentioned and are listed as follows: Jeff Grill as JH Wrestling Coach and Holly Peterson as JH Volley Ball Coach. Mrs. Wright will be on maternity leave soon and it was approved to advertise for a long term substitute for her. Ashley Mills, assistant cook, was approved for a salary increase to $9.40 per hour. Josh Baker was placed on the volunteer list and will begin in the weight room. Jay Darrow accepted the position as head wrestling coach, Debra Iring was hired as a Special Ed Aide, and Tyler Walker has been hired as a third grade teacher, pending completion of certification. Dorreen Schults rescinded her resignation, and the board accepted it. Then, instead, Dorreen submitted an application for early retirement. The board accepted this as well.Rapid Fire will be here this week to properly finish installing the heating and air conditioning unit. Mr Cortney reminded board members whose terms are up this spring, that the petitions can be taken out on January 30, 2015 and need to be filed by 5 PM on February 27, 2015. The election will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2015. The board appointed a willing Connie Gerard as ASBSD Legislative Action Network (LAN) member again.
Assistant Principal Amy Ferley said Edgemont is offering Friday as an optional school day this year with the idea that students who are struggling academically can come in for some additional help and tutoring from a teacher. They have had many students take advantage of the help, especially since they have been calling the parents and suggesting they send their students. Ms. Ferley also mentioned on the last day of school before the break, they will again have students participate in service learning. Some of the events planned are to help wrap gifts for the angel tree, volunteering at the fire hall and writing letters to deployed military personnel. As an aside comment she added that the message Jeremy Henderson shared at the Veterans Day program really impacted the students, and several of them have even asked to do something for our soldiers.
High school boys and girls basketball will start on December 12, Edgemont vs New Underwood, and December 13, Edgemont vs. Wall; with both games being played at home. JV starts at 2 p.m.
School break will begin on Friday December 19 and resume on January 5, 2015. Next school board meeting will be January 12 at 7 p.m. Meeting adjourned at 8:55 p.m.
