Lewis Charles ‘Rod’ Morrison, of Hot Springs, SD, went to be with Jesus on March 23, 2018, while at the Dixie Regional Hospital in St George, UT. While at Dixie Regional he received excellent care and became friends with many of the nurses and doctors who strived to make him as comfortable as possible. As a family we are eternally grateful to them.
Lewis was born in Hillsdale, MI, and was the eleventh of thirteen children born to William and Mary (Clark) Morrison. After graduating high school, he joined the Air Force in 1956. While stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, SD, he met and married the love of his life, Rose Cuny. They married in 1959, raising four children. After discharging from the Air Force, Lewis and his family returned to Hot Springs, were he worked for the V.A. Medical Center. He and his family moved to Montana in 1972, where he worked as a fireman transferring to a Boiler plant operator where he remained until his retirement. Lewis and Rose returned to live in Hot Springs, after 40 years.
Lewis and Rose loved to travel and lived in the warmer states during winter. Lewis enjoyed hunting with his children. His favorite place to visit was Glacier National Park where he enjoyed camping and spending time with his family. He had a smile for everyone and had an easy-going personality. Those who spent time with him came to respect and love him. He loved his grandchildren with a passion and any free time he had he spent with them. He was a man who set good examples for his children and grandchildren by sharing the values of integrity, respect for others, faith, and the love of God. He was a hard worker, and often shared his home with many others who needed a loving home.
Lewis is preceded in death by his parents, eleven brothers and sisters, one son, Douglas, as well as his son-in-law Larry Horinek whom he loved as his own.
He is survived by his wife, Rose; daughters, Alou (Larry Horinek); Marcy (Herb) Lay; Gregory (Janice) Morrison; Mitchell Standing Soldier, whom was adopted and was called their own; brother, Jerry (Dena) Morrison; twelve grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
