On Friday, November 7, the Edgemont Junior High wrestlers traveled to Hill City for the first invitational tournament of the year. Grant Darrow and Stelen Hattaway are both sixth graders who wrestled in the seventh grade division and represented the Moguls very well. Grant had three matches and was not challenged, his experience and technique gave him the advantage and he finished in first place with three pins. Grant has the confidence and experience to do very well this year. This was the first tournament for Stelen in his first year of wrestling and he did an amazing job. In his first match the score was close and he was scrapping it out when he was caught in a tough hold and was pinned. His second match was more of the same, Stelen has an explosive style that is very exciting to watch and in the third period his opponent made a small mistake and Stelen capitalized with his first victory by pin. Going into the third match of the afternoon Stelen was up against an experienced wrestler from Hill City and honestly I did not think it would end very well. Stelen entered the match with no fear and initiated the action but fell short on the score card loosing seven to eleven. Very good start gentlemen.
Due to injuries Chance Grill, Caleb Simons, and Brennen Hanes were unable to put their talents on display. These young men will be healthy soon and of course you will be hearing more about them. The Mogul wrestlers will be heading to Hemingford on Thursday, November 13, and Hot Springs on Tuesday, November 18 and plan to put on a show.
